Maybe it's because some of us are ...um.... old. fair enough lol. this is the first mmo i've played where i'm starting to feel younger than the average player. it's taking a little getting used to =p Also, because EVE doesn't seem to attract in numbers the "certain types of clientele" that MMOs like WoW or Rift do.
Funny thing though, I get bored with WoW easily and what I like about Eve is there really is something to do for us casual players (read as Husband and father of a 5 month old daughter). I mainly mine on my main and once this guy is trained will transfer him to the other account and have a mission runner/pirate. Again, totally casual. I couldn't really do that in WoW or else I'd fall behind in gear from the rest of the Guild. |

Fellow Minnesotan here (recently transplanted). I'm one of those old-ish technical wizards. I did work for Radio Shack a long time ago. Radio Shack was the tech-wizard version of McDonald's back then. minnesnowta powah! *high five* o/\o
I like Minnesota... all the trees and lakes.... *sigh* Wish we had more trees in Nebraska. We had plenty in the Chicago area where I grew up though... miss those trees... GO BEARS! |

Well, you can do a lot of fun stuff like get paid to hack..... (InfoSec)
Program games like Eve
Work for the FBI (get your clearance while you are in school as most schools will pay the $20k for the background check)
Do malware research
Program Software
Program the back end of high availability web sites
Work with BIG DATA using technologies like Apache's Hadoop
Artificial Intelligence
Oh... right... apparently I detected the sarcasm a bit late... right. |

Myfanwy Heimdal wrote:Sheimi Madaveda wrote:Student training to be a Computer Scientist, whatever they do :P They get jaded pretty quick after getting cheesed off by being treated as rubbish by the rest of the corporation who tend to only look after the marketing droids, then move into contracting and consulting to get some self esteem, get more and more jaded over time with idiot clients, stupid corporation rules, accountants, taxes and then decide at about forty to give it all up and do something else enteirly I know very good developers and techies who, for example, now own tourist attractions, become teachers, have become professional storytellers, game designers. But soon or later the new computer scientist look around their workplace and wonder where the old computer scientists have gone. Me? Rather than the rat race of London's square mile holding the hand over every bank and law firm in the City I now live in Snowdonia and 'do horse racing' for a living. A tip. Get out of computing as fast as you can. It'll rip your soul out before you hit forty.
For a second there I thought you were talking about Broadcast Television. It was for this very reason, being under-appreciated, I gave up on meteorology after 10 years in the broadcast business. It sucked the living passion right out of me. However, it also allowed me to explore other potential careers and lead me towards my love of IT/Information Security. But yeah, working for the wrong company can suck the life out of you if you let it. Oh, and I'm only half a decade away from 40 and still love computing but I don't deal with customers/non-techies anymore so that could be the reason. |

So I know there are at least 2 of you in the same building as me.
And I work at one of your competitors. :D
So is there really any difference in SEP 12 logs/log format vs. SEP 11? I go well with Coca Cola... |
